Native Plant Sources
- Desert Jewels carries mostly native plants and also a few non-natives. Their website uses codes that tell you where the plants are native to. For example, L means the plant is native locally while W means the plant is native to the western US, but not necessarily the Spokane area.
- Plants of the Wild carries mostly native plants as well as some non-natives. If you live in Spokane, call to place your order and ask them to deliver your plants to Blue Moon Nursery.
- Blue Moon offers a small selection of native plants from Plants of the Wild.
- Ritter's has a small selection of native plants including some hard-to-find native shrubs.
- Floralia focuses on water-wise plants including some natives.
- Barn & Blossom usually has a few native plants like penstemon.
- Judy's has a few native plants. Good source for kinnickinnick.
- Smart Gardens occasionally has some native plants like serviceberry shrubs.
Some of these nurseries have staff that are very knowledgeable about native plants and some don't. So, take some time to learn about native plants before heading for the nursery. You can learn a lot by looking at the Desert Jewels and Plants of the Wild websites. Think about whether you want trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, vines or ground covers. If you have a general plan, you'll be more successful at finding native plants that will work for you.
